Benefits of
Hosting a Hive
Bees are vital for healthy ecosystems, and hosting a hive can have multiple positive effects on your property and the surrounding environment.
-
Enhanced Pollination
Honey bees help transfer pollen between flowers, leading to a significant increase in yield. Properties with hives can experience up to a 60% increase in fruit or blossom production, benefiting gardens, orchards, and flowering plants.
-
Biodiversity Support
Honey bees promote biodiversity by supporting flowering plants, which, in turn, support other wildlife.
-
Environmental Impact
Bees are a keystone species—vital for ecosystem stability. Hosting hives helps ensure that local plants have the pollinators they need to thrive, supporting the broader ecosystem in Julian.
What’s Included
Each hive is professionally managed by the beekeeper to ensure both the bees' health and optimal pollination:
Regular Check-Ups: The beekeeper visits every two weeks during the active season (April through October) to monitor and maintain the hive.
Hive Health: Inspections include checks for a healthy, egg-laying queen, brood disease, as well as monitoring pollen and nectar stores to ensure a thriving colony.
Seasonal Management: The hives remain on-site for about 6-7 months each year, after which the beekeeper removes them for winter.
