Meet our Beekeeper

MEET OUR MASTER BEEKEEPER

Combining Science, Education, and Passion to Inspire Change

Andrea Supergan is more than just a beekeeper—she’s Julian’s go-to expert for all things bees and an advocate for sustainable husbandry. With a Master Beekeeper certification from UC Davis and over 16 years of experience in early childhood education, Andrea combines her technical expertise with a gift for teaching. Whether she’s mentoring budding beekeepers, educating kids about pollinators, or giving back to the community, Andrea is committed to connecting people with the vital role bees play in our world.

As a Master Beekeeper, Andrea is dedicated to educating the community about the importance of protecting and supporting bee populations. Without bees, our ecosystem would collapse, affecting not only the plants they pollinate but also the entire food web. Conservation efforts, like sustainable beekeeping practices and native bee habitats, are vital to ensuring a healthy environment for future generations.

Her dedication to sustainable beekeeping and public education, paired with her enthusiasm for sharing knowledge, makes her a well-respected figure in Julian. She actively works with Julian's elementary schools and other local organizations, fostering a deeper understanding of bees' essential role in the ecosystem.

  • Julian's Only Master Beekeeper

Educated at UC Davis, Andrea donates over 40 volunteer hours each year to school programs, garden talks, and events within the community of Julian.

  • Educated in Child Development

With her background in Early Childhood Education and experience with teaching, Andrea loves marrying her two passions by teaching children all about honey bees!

Education is her mission

Approaching Beekeeping with a Teacher’s Touch

Before Andrea was a Master Beekeeper, she served over a decade in the classroom as a preschool teacher and 6 years as a nanny, working closely with children of all ages. Her background in child development has given her the tools to make complex subjects fun and accessible to everyone. This foundation makes her an exceptional educator, whether she’s teaching a group of curious kids about bee basics or guiding adults on their beekeeping journey. Andrea’s warmth, creativity, and knack for engaging young minds brings the magic of bees to life, sticking with her students long after the lesson ends.

What is a master beekeeper?

Sharing Expertise for a More Bee-Friendly World

Having the title of “Master Beekeeper” is the ultimate badge of bee expertise! To earn this, Andrea completed a rigorous 4-year program at UC Davis, covering topics like honey bee biology and behavior, queen breeding, disease identification and management, as well as California's unique agricultural regulations.

Master Beekeepers must also give back to the public via outreach. For Andrea, this means donating over 40 volunteer hours each year to school programs, garden talks, and events within the community of Julian.
